Fisherman's Style Ceiling Shade
When it comes to lights and lampshades it is difficult to find something that suits my quirky style, and doesn't make everyone else wish I had never found it! So when I put my latest purchase on the ceiling I was surprised when it wasn't instantly rejected by the rest of the family.
It was an Amazon purchase, and we were on a very strict budget, as I had decided to redecorate and remodel our rented kitchen, and it was costing a lot more than originally planned. So while there are many lighting shops in the next town and surrounding area, they couldn't match the brief or my limited budget. Amazon has its place in our lives and as much as we try to shop locally, sometimes we just have to shop effectively.
I was looking for something that would go part way to cover an old light pendant wire, without the need to replace the original bulb fitting. Hours of scouring the shops, and looking online led me to the *Modern Black Metal Fisherman's Style Ceiling Light Shade. It had mixed reviews but I loved the style, and the price.
Lampshades, as you can tell, are a bugbear in our home. I like sparkles and odd shapes, but what I really like is a bulb that doesn't just hang down from a wire in the ceiling. I like fixed lights and spotlights but I want easy access to the bulbs and soft lighting. With this style of shade I got everything I wanted - which doesn't happen often.
It is rather tricky to hang if you don't know how. I slipped the metal sleeve over the pendant wire and held it in place from under the shade, as I screwed the bulb fixing back in place. The top part sits on the top of the actual shade, and gravity keeps it in place. It covers the dull pendant wire too. I painted the ceiling rose to match but you can buy black ones ready to fit. I was still keeping to my budget.
What needed more hands was the metal cage that covers the bulb. Once the bulb was in place, I enlisted additional hands to hold the cage steady while I secured the screws.
The shade comes with the option of a bulb, but I found it too bright and swapped it with a decorative bulb I already had. The overall effect is perfect for my kitchen diner and if I am honest, I believe it is one of the best items I have bought from Amazon. It makes me smile - and I love things that make me smile.
