Inclusive Events with Bacchus and Hops
Whilst on holiday recently, in Tavistock, we were introduced to Bacchus and Hops, a company on a mission to find premium alcohol-free drinks that didn’t compromise on quality or experience.
We were looking for a good spot to stop for lunch before checking into our accommodation, when we met Elaine outside Palmers of Tavistock. Elaine is a co-owner of Bacchus and Hops, and quickly grabbed our attention with samples of cuvée that were completely alcohol-free. Elaine was engaging shoppers and offering them samples of Jörg Geiger cuvées. Naturally we stopped to chat and were so impressed that we bought all three varieties to try. 
Since 2020 lockdown, many people have increased the amount of alcohol they are drinking at home. It is an easy habit to fall into and for us the odd bottle on the sideboard turned into a drinks cabinet in the corner, which is still pretty full of alcoholic spirits. Pouring a drink at the end of the day became second nature and we made a conscious choice to change this habit. It's not that we don't like a drink, because we do, but we are becoming more aware of the limits we need to set.
Finding good alcohol-free options is not only time-consuming, it is also very expensive, since spirits still sell for a high premium regardless of the lack of alcohol, and most beers are still in the same price bracket no matter how low the percentage goes. To be honest, a lot of it also tastes pretty dire, especially the alcohol-free gins. Guinness have done a pretty good job of replicating the taste in the 0% options, and Old Mout Cider have nailed their free-from selections. So when a company sets out to do the hard work for you, we fully support their mission. Now we just need find a reason to book a party or event so we can invite them along!
