Nairn's Wholegrain Crackers
Our latest little addiction comes in the form of these gluten-free cracked black pepper crackers from Nairn's. Plant-based and high fibre, these wholegrain oat crackers pack a punch of pepper worthy of any topping.
We always go savoury on top of our crackers, with a little lactose-free cheese and chutney, but the recent trend in strawberry sandwiches had us wondering what a slice or two of fresh strawberry would taste like, especially with a spoonful of lactose-free cream, on top of our favourite crackers.
Having tried peppered strawberries as a dessert, and finding it mildly interesting, we couldn't resist this combination. Pepper goes so well with something sweet and the balance of the bite that Nairn's capture in their crackers is the perfect texture combination for adding strawberries on top.
The M & S Red Diamond Strawberry and Crème Sandwich became a viral strawberry sensation this summer, and who knows, perhaps now we will see people becoming more adventurous with strawberries and cream, and not just squishing this delicious combination between two slices of white bread.
The Nairn's Strawberry Cream Crackers (as we like to call them) got a resounding 'YES' from our family, and with them being gluten- and lactose-free, we have enjoyed our own stunning strawberry surprise!
Nairn's oatcakes are made in Edinburgh using wholegrain ingredients, which are grown and milled locally to their specific requirements. Their closely guarded dough mix has remained unchanged in the last forty years, and in 2010 their first gluten-free range hit the shelves, having passed Coeliac UK exacting standards. By 2016 Nairn's had opened a gluten-free, state-of-the-art production facility in Edinburgh.
