The Lookout Bubble
Port Lympne offers a variety of overnight accommodation, ranging from ultimate luxury to glamping getaways. Whatever the budget or desire for adventure, Port Lympne has some amazing accommodation options to choose from at their reserve in Kent. For the end of November 2025 we booked a two night stay to coincide with the start of the first Port Lympne Illuminated event. What began as a quick search for a nearby hotel room ended in booking our first-ever stay in the Lookout Bubble.
The Lookout Bubble is one of two bubble accommodations at Port Lympne, with the Treetop Bubble completing the duo. We felt the Lookout Bubble offered us more of an adventure, with additional privacy in the heart of the Reserve. Babydoll's Restaurant was just a short walk away from the bubble so we booked dinner for both nights, as they could easily cater for my dairy- and gluten-free diet.
We travelled to Kent early in the morning of Friday 28th November with the weather holding; the threatening rain stayed away. Checking into the bubble at 3pm gave us time to explore the Reserve before dinner, and before walking around the illuminated trail. Going in November meant the days were shorter and nights longer. It wasn't long before we were wandering along a dark path, quietly moving past the Pallas cats enclosure and heading up to dinner. The illuminated trail was set further up the hill at the top of the Reserve, so we were quite alone on our wander past the sleeping residents along the way. However, I am sure we were keenly watched in the darkness as we crept by their enclosures.
Port Lympne Illuminated visitors were welcomed by a fun-fair on their way in from the main car park, with the light show looping around the Reserve. We had booked tickets but were free to wander outside of the trail, up and down to the Bubble. A buggy was also supplied for the duration of our stay but on the first day we walked over nine miles, enjoying the beauty of the lights and the quiet of the night, before a bath and bed.
The Lookout Bubble has its own gated garden area, and as far as we could tell, we could not be seen or see anyone outside during our stay. We hoped as much, since there were no curtains, and the urge to be totally free in the nature of the experience meant we felt at ease to dress, or undress, as we chose. The toilet and shower are privately screened within the Bubble, yet the bath is in full view of the night sky. Privacy screens are situated to each side but by the time we had filled a hot bubble bath, we were ready for a soak under the stars regardless of who was watching.
As a couple we seldom bathe together as we don't often get the time, and we don't have a big enough bath at home. Spending time together relaxing in warm bubbles was an amazing experience, amplified by the clear view of the night sky. Laying in bed later, we watched the sky and were rewarded with a shooting star.
Breakfast was delivered both mornings by request, but the option to go to the Garden Room for breakfast was also available. We couldn't resist the chance to sit looking out at the view, while sipping coffee and eating croissants each day.
The shower was hot and the bed was comfortable - two of our main requirements from any accomodation. Using the toilet was the only stumbling block and even as a seasoned couple of nearly 16 years, one of us is still required to go for a walk occasionally. The Lookout Bubble is not insulated, so is well stocked with extra blankets, throws and heaters so you can stay cosy in bed or out. We didn't feel the cold at all, even when the rains came on the second day and the winds blew that night. The Bubble is pressurised so be sure to close one door before you open the other on the way in and out.
By the second day we decided to make use of the buggy supplied, and found the route around the park easy to follow. It was an altered route to allow for the illuminated light trail, and we were rewarded on our last morning, as we drove to reception. It seems we were just ahead of the keepers doing their rounds, and many of the more shy cats thought we might be them, and were waiting with interest as we passed. If we stay again we would definitely be up bright and early and exploring before the day visitors arrive. Staying in The Lookout Bubble was a unique experience. Our two-night stay cost £1,338 and was at the very beginning of Port Lympne Illuminated, a popular time to book. We made the reservation six month in advance. However, if you check the official website, you will find some bargains to be had in the January sales.
